United Shades of America, a new CNN documentary series scheduled to air in the last quarter of 2015, will feature Lake Ashton, Central Florida’s premier 55+ community.
The non-scripted series follows comedian and political gadfly W. Kamau Bell as he explores the far corners of the United States and its various groups and subcultures. Produced by award-winning Objective Productions (owned by All3Media), the documentary series takes a humorous approach to America’s many colorful and diverse definitions.

Among the subcultures United Shades of America will examine is today’s seniors (Today’s Fountain of Youth). “Objective Productions decided on Lake Ashton after viewing the extensive collection of Lake Ashton YouTube videos which prompted them to visit and meet our residents,” said Jon Lawson, Lake Ashton’s director of marketing. A number of communities were considered before the final selection was made. Lawson said, “That Lake Ashton was chosen for this program over all the other retirement communities in Florida is a testament to the quality of our community, amenities and our active residents.” “I had the opportunity to show W.
